Ways to avoid dehydration of the skin
The key to healthy-looking, glowing skin is to always keep it moisturized, but making your skin look nourished needs more than just applying some moisturizing cream when you wake up in the morning to keep it glowing all day long. If you have an important meeting or an event to attend the next day and realize that your skin is looking pale and dry, you might be looking for quicker ways to hydrate your face overnight. Here are some tips for overnight skin hydration:
- Apply coconut oil on the face, hands, and neck.
- Treat your lips with a lip balm; this layer on your lips will lock its moisture, controlling chapped lips which might also bleed in the winters.
- Use a foot cream and wear socks to avoid the contact of dust and dry air with the skin.
- Use a humidifier in your room so that the air circulating in the room always has some moisture and does not take away moisture from your skin.
- Try a skin hydration face mask to give a light moisture therapy to the dermis.
- Use Vaseline products and gloves on your hands.
- Choose a moisturizer based on your skin type and not just any moisturizer off the shelf. Know whether your skin type is oily, dry, sensitive, normal, or a combination type, as choosing the right moisturizer accordingly is very essential.
- Use skin care products that are water-based as each skin type has its own formula.
Apart from the above-mentioned tips, there are some daily skin care habits that will help in skin hydration:
- Avoiding using hot water to wash your face : Hot water tends to rid the skin of moisture, which means long and steamy showers are also best avoided.
- Avoid washing the face in the morning : The oils secreted from the oil glands in the face during sleep will avoid evaporation of moisture from the skin, ensuring skin hydration.
- Drink a lot of fluids : Fluids in any form, from plain water to herbal tea and fruit juices, are helpful. If someone is mildly dehydrated, it takes about 45 minutes to get fully hydrated with 600ml of water.
- Practice the correct method of applying a moisturizer : Applying moisturizer when the skin is damp is a good skin hydration practice as it helps to lock in the moisture that is already present in the skin.
- Hydrate the skin regularly : If your skin is very dry and just using a moisturizer is not enough, you can add a moisturizing serum or nourishing masks to your skincare routine. Cleansing the skin before using these products is also an important factor.
- Use a facial spray : This is a good way to instantly replenish the moisture of the skin in the middle of the day without having to remove or redo the makeup.
- Include humectants and occlusives that are naturally available for skin care.
- Plan and use appropriate products in layering your make-up so that it can lock in moisture.
- Add plenty of Omega-3 fatty acids to your diet for skin hydration.
